One of Ted Kaufman's great designs, Mercedes IV has represented Australia at the Admiral's Cup (1975), New South Wales in the Southern Cross Cup (1975) and has many ocean racing wins to her credit in two states. Her best Sydney Hobart performance was 4th in 1974 for her designer/skipper. She should fare well under the new IOR ratings but will face a lot of hot machinery in this race.
